The Werther’s Story
It was the melding of imagination and entrepreneurial spirit that began the Werther’s story. In 1903 August Storck built a hard-boiled candy factory in a little country town in Westphalia, Germany, by the name of Werther.
August Storck’s Group manufactured several types of confectionery, one of which was affectionately called Werther’s. Storck’s inventiveness and vivacity continued into the Thirties when the first brand-name bonbon was produced. Up until this point in time, sweets had been sold unpackaged, as no-name products, in the manufacturer’s home region. Storck wrapped its bonbons, painted the Storck name on the wrappers, and sold them abroad. This innovation opened the door for a steady stream of new, delicious products that would build the Storck portfolio into a strong and steady market leader.
Today Storck operates in more than 80 countries worldwide, including Australia. The Group excels in production of both chocolate and sugar confectionery. Werther’s Original, with its luscious fresh cream and butter taste is one of the most popular and sort after Storck products.
Australian owned Stuart Alexander and Co acquired the licence to market and distribute Werther’s Original in Australia in 1996. Werther’s Original is currently the market leader in the butter candy segment of Australia and is available from all leading outlets.
